Evangel Church Camp History
In 1933 founder and pastor Rev. Williams, felt the need to purchase property outside the city for families to enjoy the outdoors in the summer. For over 20 years many people enjoyed the church owned camp in NJ. When Pastor Johansson came to NYC, the church no longer owned the camp. While the need for a place away from city life was greater than ever, little could be done, as we were building and remodeling our present church and school facilities since 1987.
With the new sanctuary, fellowship hall, and offices completed, God opened the door for Evangel Church to own its own camp once again. We are both challenged and excited.
Join Us For A Picnic.
WHY A CAMP?
Each year the leaders of our church ministries struggle to hold a fall, winter, or spring retreat. Most often the weekend we want is unavailable. We then need to rearrange our whole schedule. Frequently, the campgrounds must be shared with other groups on the same weekend. The cost has sky-rocketed to over $100 for 5 meals and 2 nights.
FOUR SEASONS OF FELLOWSHIP
Evangel Camp is located in Berne, NY, approximately 3 hours from NYC, nestled in the Helderberg Mountains. Campers will delight in the beauty in God’s creation as the enjoy Christian community and grow in their personal faith.
The year round events that can be planned are limitless. In addition to our own facilities – camping, hiking, swimming, baseball, basketball, croquet, etc., the camp’s close proximity to the state capitol, shopping areas, museums, golf courses, restaurants, amusement parks, concert halls, playhouses, and many more, adds to the possibilities for fellowship.
The camp will be used for retreats, conferences, prayer mountain experiences, day trips, week long programs, and weekend getaways for the Evangel family. The camp will also give us the opportunity to strengthen other congregations by making the camp available to church groups “stuck” in the city.
…for the glory of God.
